Black Daughter of Louis XIV?


Her name was Louise Marie-Therese. And yes, officially she has died a few days after birth. But unofficially Mauresse de Moret continued to receive the royal pension and frequent visits from her royal relatives. When the doctor who had delivered the child decided to explain to the king that the presence of a black domestic in the proximity of his wife, Marie-Therese, could have influenced the skin color of girl, “Just looking at him could suffice,” Louis responded with a joke, “These are some penetrating looks.”
