Music of the Spheres

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe are in Paris, right on the corner of Sainte-Anne and Petits Champs. It is here that Lulli composed his Te Deum for the Sun King’s recovery after a rather brutal anal fistula. Lulli owned this building. This is why the wall shows the relief with musical instruments. Initially only fourteen musicians played the Te Deum for Louis XIV. A month ago I’ve heard it performed by the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Band — not a bad performance, it is on youtube now, under the title of “God Save the Queen.”
