Port-Royal

Port-Royal, the stronghold of Jansenism. Jansenism? In France, it was a response to the Reformation within the bounds of the Church. Jansenism was outlawed by Louis XIV. The nuns of Port-Royal were kicked out of their convent. During the years of persecution women were responding by mass-producing miracles; the standard miracle, eye-witnessed here by Philippe de Champaigne, was for a nun to recover from paralysis.
